A Case of Hemolytic Disease of Newborn Caused by anti-E

Abstract
The hemolytic disease of newborn(HDN) is characterized by hemolytic anemia and severe jaundice due to IgG antibody transmitted from the mother to the fetus across the placenta.
Anti-Rh(D) has been the most common antibody responsible for HDN, but recent¡þly incidence of HDN due to Rh(D) has become decreased due to prophylaxis of anti¡þD immunoglobulin and incidence of HDN due to minor factor seems to be increased.
The 1 day did. male baby was admitted because of whole body cyanosis and prema¡þturity. He was developed severe jaundice at the 2 days.
He was fifth baby and his blood type was AB, CcDEe. The his mother¢¥s blood type was B, CcDe. The serologic examination revealed positive direct antiglobulin test and indirect antiglobulin test on the patient¢¥s red cell and serum. The mother¢¥s ser¡þum revealed positive indirect antiglobulin test and the antibody in the maternal ser¡þum was identified as anti-E via antibody screening and identification test.
After two times of exchange transfusion, the jaundice has subsided. So we report a case of HDN due to anti-E with the review of literatures.
